Awesome, Tom. Your descriptive background is thorough and complete. I really like your solutions, especially telling about the Spanish programs in English. You really came through with a great case study!

Very thorough analysis. Thanks!
This was very informative.
It was interesting to see the perspective of one young girl who's parents believed they helped their daughter to be well adjusted to the new language, only to see how far she has to go and hope that her parents are just as willing to help.

I found this very informative. It was interesting to read that everyone but her mother spoke some English. That would be extremely diffficult for her to live in the United States and not speak any Enlgish. It looked extremely difficult for the rest of the family even know a little English. There wasn't a day where she didn't struggle with the English Language. It would be frustrating everyday to struggle speaking. I don't think I could do it.
I really enjoyed reading about this girl Graciela. She seems like a wonderful girl who enjoys school and works hard to achieve good grades. I find it saddening that neither her teachers or parents have put it upon themselves to help Graciela become fluent in English so she can achieve her goal at becomming a lawyer.
I loved do this case study. This girl seems to know just what she wants in life, she just needs to be directed towards her goals. She can achieve them as long as she starts using English when speaking, writing, and reading.
I found this case study to be very informative. I thought it was interesting that her mother was the only one who did not speak English. With that information, I would have thought English would be spoken at home between Graciela and her siblings. She seems to be a very bright student, and could excel in anything she wanted to do. I think the solutions were great ideas! This would really help Graciela improve on her language. Also, I thought the solutions would help for other students who have problems with English.
I was sadden for her to see her potential. This article, I feel, really gave us a good picture of what life of a ELL is like. How hard it must be for her to have two worlds going on at once. If the solutions are put into place,
Graciela will soar!
I thought that some of the strategies that were suggested were very interesting. I liked the strategy that helped Graciela with comprehension in which she would retell to a group of people what the tv show was about. This is something that she will enjoy doing and as a teacher you can assess her.

Wonderful strategies that were utilize to help with Graciela transition. I enjoyed reading the different approaches that were utilized and the idea of long term goals that were establish for assessment. This is an excellent tool that will help me throughout the experiences with ELL. Great job!
What is Graciela's English proficiency level?
